About the organisation
Laverton Community Integrated Services Inc. [LCIS], located in the west of Melbourne, is an Australian Charity and Not-For-Profit Commission [ACNC] registered charitable institution that listens to the community it serves and is governed by a community focused Board of Governance that delivers social outcomes through adult education and direct assistance. Our vision: “we empower people”.
We engage, assist and support our First Nation People; the long-term unemployed; the financially stressed; newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers; single and blended families; the homeless; those escaping domestic violence; people with disabilities, mental health issues, addictions and our community in general.
LCIS operates three distinct and collocated business arms:
- Laverton Community Centre and Neighbourhood House; providing Emergency Financial & Material relief; L2P learner / mentor program assisting our youth to gain their 120 hours of supervised training; Laverton Youth Foundation engaging 300+ young people with a variety of programs.
- Laverton Community Education Centre; a Registered Training Organisation [RTO] offering pre-accredited Adult Community Further Education [ACFE]; Nationally recognized Vocational Education and Training {VET] courses; as well as the Adult Migrant English Program [AMEP] to the newly arrived.
- Laverton Community Children’s Centre; 116 place Long Day Care Centre also offering sessional and integrated 3yo and 4yo Kindergarten.
About the role
Board members carry out their duties in a lawful manner and ensure that the business of the organisation is carried out in accordance with the law and under the terms of the organisation’s Rules of Incorporation and Policies. Board members support the vision, purposes and values of the organisation and ensure the governance and management of the organisation reflect them.
In the main, the Board of Governance delegates the operational tasks of the organisation to staff; however, it remains the Board’s responsibility to ensure that all motions from Board meetings are implemented and actions completed.
All Board of Governance members are directly elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting each year and hold a one-year term.
